Update 11th August 2023
In preparation for the combined volume of To Cut a Short Story Short, vols. I and II, and Bound in Morocco, (a total of 200 stories) mentioned below, I have recently re-read and edited both collections of stories.
Not having read some of the stories for several years, I was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed them all! I made a very small number of textual changes, to correct a handful of ‘typos,’ and, in one or two cases, to make things clearer. I also corrected some punctuation and changed the font and layout, so I’ve called both books revised editions and given each a new preface. Those are the versions you will now receive should you order copies (highly recommended!).
I also used the same revised texts for hardback editions of both books, which should be available on Amazon within two or three days of this post. The quality of the proof copies is super and I would recommend the hardback versions highly.
The combined volume, to be issued later this year, is provisionally titled, In Dulci Jubilo: Two Hundred Little Stories.
I aim to similarly review all my titles and publish them in hardback over the next few months. So by the end of this year, there should be eight books, all available in paperback, hardback and Kindle, plus the first three titles in audiobook form too! In all, they will comprise a total of 420 stories and poems.
Update 22nd May 2023
All current books are listed in the grid above, with links to the respective Amazon page.
They are, To Cut a Short Story Short: 111 Little Stories, To Cut a Short Story Short, vol. II: 88 Little Stories, Flash Friction – To Cut a Short Story Short, vol. III: 72 Little Stories, Bound in Morocco: A Short Story of Intrigue, Letters from Reuben: 40 Little Tales of Mirth, and, The Window Crack’d: 40 Little Tales of Horror and the Supranatural.
Bound in Morocco, To Cut a Short Story Short: 111 Little Stories, and, To Cut a Short Story Short, vol. II: 88 Little Stories are all available on audiobook, read by top professional narrator, Angus Freathy. He really brings them to life. Highly recommended! They are available from Amazon and Audible as per the links above, and also iTunes.
The above three titles will now be issued in a revised and combined volume of 200 stories this December 2023, provisionally entitled, In Dulci Jubilo, 200 Flash Fiction Stories.
Also due in December 2023 is a new title, provisionally entitled Flash in Your Face – To Cut a Short Story Short, vol. IV: 68 Little Stories and Poems. This will also include a republication of a few of the best stories from the first two volumes.
Update 2nd June 2018
I’m planning on publishing a second volume, this time of 88 stories, in early December 2018. It’ll mainly consist of the stories published on this blog since volume 1.
To Cut a Short Story Short, vol. II: 88 Little Stories
Then I’ll be publishing a combined volume of To Cut a Short Story Short, vols. 1 & 2, plus Bound in Morocco. So 200 stories in total (111+88+1), nearly 150,000 words, around 600 pages! That’s slated for March 2022.

1st June 2017
I’m very pleased and excited to announce that the ‘best of my blog,’ in the form of 111 stories, has just been published on Amazon in paperback as To Cut a Short Story Short: 111 Little Stories.
All the stories have been rechecked and revised where applicable, and the book has over 250 pages. It also includes a 4000-word ‘bonus story,’ a ‘horror comedy,’ which will NOT be appearing on my blog. It is priced at just £8.95/$11.45.
A Kindle eBook version is also available at only £3.49/$4.45 and features a clickable contents list for quick access to any story.
In both versions, the word count for each story is given in the contents table for ease of selection.
Description:
A young magician in a pub opens his hands to release a cloud of tropical butterflies; a female bookseller is forced to attend a dance in drag to atone for a misdemeanour; a lonely man searches for a mysterious woman on a cruise; four school friends experience terror on a caravan holiday, and a macabre stranger wanders the streets at midnight, stealing dreams.
Ranging from just 100 up to 4000 words, these and 106 other memorable little stories are found in this eclectic and tantalizing collection by Simon J. Wood.
To Cut a Short Story Short preview
[7th Nov 2017] I’m very pleased to announce that an audiobook of To Cut a Short Story Short: 111 Little Stories is completed and is now available on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes too. Angus Freathy’s ‘voices’ really bring the stories to life!
[27th Nov 2017] I’m excited to announce that Angus Freathy has now produced Bound in Morocco as an audiobook. It is available through the same outlets as given above. It was released on 20th Nov 2017 and I think it’s a thrilling rendition!
